Steindór Jónsson

Steindór Jónsson is an investigative journalist, screenwriter, filmmaker, and performer, born in Reykjavík, Iceland.

Steindór is a screenwriter, whose recent projects have received development funding from the Icelandic Film Fund and RÚV. He developed the story for Merki (Signals), which reveived the 2026 Edda award for short film of the year. His directorial debut, the short film Hin, is now in post-production. He produced content for the 2023 European Film Awards and holds an MA in screenwriting from MetFilm School Berlin.

Steindór has worked as a journalist, primarily for the Icelandic newspaper Heimildin, as well as doing freelance writing for several English-language and Icelandic outlets. He received the 2018 Icelandic journalism award for investigative journalism and the 2019 award for coverage. He previously worked for the Icelandic Ministry of Finance.

Steindór hosts the music radio show Main Floor on Refuge Worldwide and DJs regularly at Reykjavík venues as well as abroad.

Steindór is a seasoned comedy improviser and teacher, starting out with Improv Iceland and then performing with several groups at Comedy Café Berlin and internationally.
